Privacy Policy

Offro (offro.ca) is operated by VinSight Inc. ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use Offro, why, who we share it with, and your rights. It is written to meet the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25), and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Write to this address for any question, request or complaint about your personal information.

1. What we collect

When you ask for a value (no account, no name needed):

Your vehicle's details: VIN (if you enter it), year, make, model, trim, kilometres, condition, accident history.
Your postal code. We use it to find your province and your region's market.
Technical data: your IP address, which we convert into a one-way code (a "hash") before storing it, and the language you use. We keep the values we showed you.

When you ask us to act (cash offer, 24-hour offer, "sell it for me", dealer offers, value tracking, liens and history):

Your name, email address and phone number.
The choices you ticked, the exact consent text you saw, the date and time, your IP address and your browser type. We keep this as proof of your consent.
What you tell us later (photos, messages, inspection results).

We do not collect your driver's licence, banking information or social insurance number through the website. If you sell us your car, the documents needed for the sale are collected at that time, under the sale contract.

We use your information only for the purposes above, or for a purpose compatible with them, or with your new consent.

3. Consent

Each optional use has its own checkbox. Boxes are never pre-ticked. You can give one consent without the others. You can withdraw a consent at any time by writing to privacy@offro.ca or by using the unsubscribe link in any email. Withdrawing does not affect what was done before.

4. Automated decisions

Our values and the instant cash offer are produced automatically, by a pricing model that uses your vehicle's details, kilometres, condition, region and recent Canadian market data. No person reviews an instant cash offer before you see it.

You have the right to know the personal information used to produce a value or an offer, the main reasons and factors that led to it, and to have it reviewed by a person. Write to privacy@offro.ca. A cash offer is always confirmed by a person at inspection before any sale.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information.

We share it only:

With participating dealers, and only if you tick "Get offers from dealers". Each dealer is responsible for its own use of your information under its own privacy policy.
With service providers that host the site, store data, send email or messages, or run lien and history searches for you. They act on our instructions under written agreements, and may not use your information for their own purposes.
With public registries (for example the RDPRM in Quebec) when you ask for a lien search.
When the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.

6. Where your information is stored

Our service providers may store or process your information outside Quebec, in Canada or the United States. Before we communicate personal information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will receive adequate protection, and we bind the provider by contract. Information stored outside Canada may be accessible to the authorities of that country under its laws.

7. How long we keep it

Value estimates (no contact details): 24 months.
Requests and contact details: 24 months after our last exchange with you, unless a sale took place, in which case we keep sale records as long as the law requires.
Consent records: 36 months after the consent ends.

After that, we delete the information or make it anonymous.

8. Security

We protect your information with safeguards suited to its sensitivity: encrypted connections, restricted access for staff who need it, hashed IP addresses, and access logs. If a confidentiality incident creates a risk of serious injury, we will notify you and the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as the law requires.

9. Your rights

You can ask us to:

give you access to your personal information;
correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
stop using it for a purpose, or withdraw a consent;
delete it when we no longer need it, or stop disseminating it;
give it to you, or to someone you name, in a structured, commonly used technological format.

Write to privacy@offro.ca. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

10. Cookies and tracking

Offro does not use advertising or analytics cookies or tracking pixels. Your browser keeps your latest result and your language choice in temporary storage on your own device. You can clear it at any time.

11. Emails and messages

We send commercial emails or texts only with your consent. Every email identifies VinSight Inc. and includes a working unsubscribe link. We act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.

12. Minors

Offro is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

13. Changes

If we change this policy, we post the new version here with a new date. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we will ask for your consent again.
